Previous tenants, cleaners, contractors, a former roommate: nobody knows how many copies of your key exist. Rekeying keeps your existing locks and makes every old key useless, usually in under an hour for a whole home. While we are there we can match all your exterior doors to one key, and we check that each lock actually throws fully into the frame, which is where most "secure" doors quietly fail.
Vacation rentals, roommates and turnover

Hardware that survives salt air
Within a few blocks of the water, from Bird Rock down to the courts in Mission Beach, thin plated locks pit and seize within a couple of years. On exterior doors and gates we recommend solid brass, stainless steel or lifetime-finish hardware, and we carry those options on the truck. If your current lock is stiff but sound, cleaning and lubricating it properly is often all it needs; we tell you honestly when a lock is worth repairing versus replacing.

A smart lock is only as reliable as the door it sits on. If the door needs a shove to latch, the motor strains, batteries die early and the lock eventually jams. We adjust the door and strike first, then install the lock, pair it to your phone or hub and set up guest codes before we leave. Bought your own lock online? How pricing works for residential work
The main factors are how many locks are involved, whether each one is rekeyed or replaced, the grade of hardware you choose, and whether a door needs new holes bored for a lock that was never there. Smart locks add a little time for pairing and setup. Hardware you supply yourself is fine; we just check it is a model that will last on a coastal door.

Common questions
Should I rekey or replace my locks?
Rekey if the locks are in good shape and you simply need old keys to stop working; it is faster and costs less. Replace when the hardware is worn or corroded, when it is a low-grade builder lock, or when you want a different style, a higher security grade or a smart lock. Can one key open every door in my house?
Usually, yes. If your locks share the same brand and keyway we can key them all alike in one visit. If they are different brands, we tell you which cylinders would need to be swapped to make a single key work, and what that adds.
Will you install a smart lock I bought myself?
Yes. We install customer-supplied locks, adjust the door so the motor is not fighting the strike, and pair the lock to your phone before we leave. If the model you bought is one we have seen fail near the ocean, we say so before installing it.
Can you make my apartment more secure without replacing everything?
Yes, and it is often the best value. Adding a deadbolt where there is only a knob lock, replacing the strike plate with a reinforced one held by three-inch screws into the framing, and adding longer hinge screws makes a door far harder to kick in without touching the lock you already have.
Do you fix sliding glass door locks?
Yes. Patio door latches wear out and the aluminum frames corrode near the beach, so the door either will not lock or will not stay latched. We replace the latch or handle set, add a secondary lock or pin where it makes sense, and adjust the rollers if the door is dragging.
