What happens when you call

Tell us where you are and what you are locked out of. You get a price, an ETA and the technician's name before anyone is dispatched, and we keep you posted if traffic changes the ETA. If your phone is about to die, say so and we will confirm exactly where to find you.

When we arrive we check ID and something that connects you to the property or vehicle: a piece of mail, a lease, a registration card, or a text from your landlord or host. It takes thirty seconds and it is the reason you can trust a locksmith not to open your door for someone else. Then we open the door. We only replace parts if something is genuinely broken, and you approve that first.

Non-destructive entry, almost always

We pick, bypass or decode locks rather than drilling them. For standard residential deadbolts, knob locks, apartment mortise locks and almost all vehicles, that means no damage and nothing to replace. Drilling is a last resort for a lock that is already broken or for certain high-security cylinders, and if it ever comes to that you hear it from us before it happens, along with what the replacement costs.

How pricing works for lockouts

Lockout pricing depends on a few things: whether it is a home, a business or a vehicle, the type of lock (a standard deadbolt is quicker than a high-security cylinder), and whether you also want a rekey because the keys are lost rather than just inside. Evenings and weekends are quoted the same way as any other call: you hear the number before we leave.

You get the price on the phone before we leave, we confirm it at the door before touching the lock, and it does not change once the door is open. No "service call" bait price that turns into something else on arrival.

What to have ready when you call

• Photo ID, plus something that ties you to the place or car (mail, lease, registration, a message from your landlord or host)
• The exact address, or the cross streets or parking lot if you are with a car
• What you are locked out of and, if you know it, the lock brand or type
• Whether the keys are inside, lost, or with someone else, so we know if a rekey makes sense
• A phone number we can reach you on while we are on the way
